Even if you love your kitchen exactly as it is, it is always fun to see the hot trends for the interior design industry.
Your kitchen is the heart of your home. You use it every day, so is it functioning the way you want, or is it in need of a minor facelift or a major overhaul? If you just want to update your kitchen here are my top three ideas for simple changes that can make a huge impact.
Backsplash
Glass tile has been the rage for the last few years, but there are other options that make sense depending on your preferred design aesthetic. I particularly like this new ceramic tile. It is a beautiful creme color and the raised pattern, a present day reinterpretation of 50s and 60s modern design, adds textural interest to the backsplash.
Lighting for Tasks and for Ambiance
Lighting makes your kitchen more functional, and it adds to the ambiance of the space. Many options are available today including literally any style of pendant fixture for your island.
Under counter lighting provides task illumination and can be set on dimmers. You can also add lighting above your cabinets if the space is not covered by a soffit and bulkhead. Or, you can add lighting under your raised bar countertop or inside of glass cabinets.
If you are considering a major kitchen remodel, there are many other ways we can add lighting to your space to create drama and an artistic flair.
Countertops Beyond Granite
If you have been in your home for many years dreaming of new countertops, the options today are endless. If you are oriented toward more “green and sustainable” products, you might consider the quartz option pictured below. Quartz comes in a variety of colors and it is ultra-durable.
Using surfaces other than polished granite can add depth and drama to your space, and if you are not ready to install stone throughout your kitchen, just adding it to your island can immediately update your interior. Add lighting and a new backsplash and your kitchen can literally transform in a few weeks.
